The Team

Several people are on the daily basis working on the project, especially – authors of the idea Gints, Ansis, Girts and Martins.

Gints Celajs

Following, and indeed during, his studies in Rural Tourism Gints has been a successful businessman. With enterprises ranging from rural tourism through health and fitness to real estate he has established himself as one of the new generation of Baltic businessmen – motivated not purely by money but by an awareness of the wider social implications of business.

His frustration with the existing business and social situation both in Latvia and worldwide has been the key motivator to his involvement in this project. One of the original instigators of the concept, his aim is to create in Wall of the World a flagship project to demonstrate and inspire others. The vast majority of the existing monuments on this scale are born of blood, sweat and tears – be it through slavery, war or simple economic exploitation. The Wall will serve as a clear demonstration of the power of positive collective will.

As CEO, Gints provides the business acumen and drive to lead this project to its culmination.

Ansis Lipenitis

Ansis has been an active participant and leader of youth organizations since high school. He has a wide experience of developing organized youth activities and cultural events. An ex-president of thestudent council of the Banking institution of Higher Education he has campaigned to increase the rights and welfare of students and young people and has participated in national and international youth conferences, such as the Youth 2000 conference in Denmark where the aim was to create a basis for a European Constitution.

Following studies in the Banking Institution of Latvia and International Business Administration in Karel de Grote Hogeschool in Belgium, Ansis currently works in one of the leading IT/web design companies in Latvia where he assists large high-profile organizations to develop internet strategies.

As one of the instigators of the Wall of the World concept, Ansis brings key IT skills to the project along with legal, creative and marketing input.

Girts Celajs

All the way through basic and higher education, Girts was a leader of student activism, constantly working to improve the lot of students both in his home country and abroad. As a board member of the National Latvian Students Association he was directly involved in negotiations with the Latvian Government to better the position of students in Latvia. As well as many domestic conferences, Girts represented Latvian students in international conferences covering a wide range of issues such as the environment, youth development and disabled access. He was amongst the first to attend human rights training when it became available in high-school and was one of the 9 chosen from 250 as part of an international youth consultation project to have his concerns dealt with in a series of international workshops. The theme: What will happen to the cultures of the smaller nation states within a unified Europe?

Girts professional career began at one of “the big four” auditing and advisory companies. He currently works in one of the largest banks in Latvia dealing with corporate and large-scale project accounts.

Bringing together his knowledge of social activism and international finance, he will provide guidance to ensure the Wall of the World becomes a project over and above the existing standard without losing sight of the social and ethical aims of the organization.
